As the first quarter has come to a close, the Second Grade Stars have worked hard to demonstrate their skills and newly acquired knowledge. They have proven that they are up for the challenges of the coming year.
During religion, we began talking about the Church year and what each season means. We also created a Church Year Wheel, which is a tool that your child can use to remember what season we are in.
We finally ended unit one in math. The students took an assessment on addition and subtraction facts and strategies. Next, we will move into place value and adding and subtracting two digit numbers within 100.
Our writing time this week was focused on writing a friendly letter to our pen pals in Vietnam. They are students from my old school, American International School, and are also in second grade. Our stars were so excited to begin this friendship! Our letters, which were written with proper friendly letter format, should arrive in the next two weeks.
The second graders also started working on our auction item for Dine by Design. It takes a lot of effort and concentration to follow directions while doing something new and fun, but the class is determined to make something beautiful for the lucky winner!
