This was a busy week of assessments, celebrations, and fun. The students put in great effort on their Language Arts and Social Studies assessments. Now i'm looking forward to a wonderful weekend full of grading papers ;-)
Our school celebrated our First Friday Mass today. To prepare the graders for this special celebration, our sixth grade buddies came on Thursday afternoon so that we could all practice proper mass etiquette. We talked about blessing ourselves with Holy Water as we enter the church, the importance and reason for genuflecting, why we sing during mass, and what to do while mass is going on. As today marks the Feast of the Guardian Angels, Father Chad spoke out our Guardian Angels and why they are so important to us. Ask your child about why our Guardian Angels are our best friends.
During Math, we focused on solving word problems in addition and subtraction. The Common Core Progress Math books take a more in-depth and intensive look at mathematical concepts, so using this text for the first time was a bit of a challenge for the class. I see this as a wonderful challenge though, and will work with them to have a solid understanding of the math skills we are learning.
We ended our week with art and a treat! Since it is the beginning of fall, we created pumpkins to decorate our class bulletin board. They are not just plain regular pumpkins though. Each child chose an emotion to portray with their pumpkin and so now we have jack-o-lanterns who are very in touch with their feelings.
Since our stars reached our goal of 200 total ClassDojo points, they received a treat, as promised- chocolate chip cookies!
Have a wonderful weekend! Here's looking to another great week in second grade!
